One more retro-cast modern film — Inglourious Basterds, as made in the mid-60s. I had so much fun casting this, actually, even though only three of the “stars” made it onto the poster — but can you imagine Peter O’Toole as Hicox or Romy Schneider as von Hammersmark? I didn’t even begin to start casting the individual Basterds. Because of Tarantino’s blending of genres and stylistic nods to films of all different eras, this is a film that I think would have actually translated really well to having been made in this time. My only question: who would play the Bear Jew?
