There has to be a version of Isaac Asimov’s quote about advanced technologies being indistinguishable from magic that covers the point at which social justice becomes indistinguishable from satire. Maybe the whole otherkin/trans-species/trans-ethnicity/trans-abled community is just a haven for people with actual mental illnesses? I think that seems rather likely — it’s a place to be told that there’s nothing wrong with you, you’re just special!! The specialest!!! You’re a talking dog with several comic book characters in your head! Back in the olden days, if you thought you were a flying turtle, you were actually mentally ill. And you got treatment for it. Now you just go on the internet and everyone else affirms your specialness and tells you that you shouldn’t have to work or go to school because you’re a flying turtle trapped in a human’s body. Plus when you get into how the otherkin community supports and shields pedophilia — I just can’t. I cannot.
