i also do not care for movies and tv shows about super-competent women working high-status jobs or kicking ass flawlessly while looking hot.

i mean, yay, that’s great i guess, proving that a vagina isn’t a barrier to ass-kicking, but what i really want to see are a bunch of lovable loser female heroes who work shitty jobs or are comparatively schlubby and a little bit overweight or aren’t really that nice and have attitude problems. or all of the above, even. i want to see lady characters who don’t so much kick ass as have their asses kicked. i can’t relate to badass bitches with superficial “flaws.” they’re fun to watch, but honestly, i don’t see myself in any of them as much as i do in hannah from girls or annie from bridesmaids or even britta from community.

which is not to say that female characters can’t be competent or hot or have high-status jobs or kick ass (physically or otherwise) all the time. but i hate that you have to do all of them to be considered a “strong female character.” i would rather see weak female characters, personally — ladies who don’t have their shit together, and maybe they’re working on it and maybe they’re not. the types of roles men get to play, essentially.
