Filed under: i mean lbr suzanne collins and i are hardly bffs HOWEVER people who say ''oh the whole idea is just a battle royale ripoff are my least favorite people THE ENTIRE SERIES IS FULL OF ILLUSIONS TO THE ROMAN EMPIRE GLADIATORIAL COMBAT FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG and then there are the allusions/nods to major dystopian lit (fahrenheit 451 and 1984 in particular) there are bits reminiscent of battle royale i.e. the backpacks with supplies AND THEN IT TAKES A HARD LEFT TURN INTO WAR STORY LAND WHERE NONE OF THIS EVEN MATTERS EXCEPT AS A BACKDROP SO NO NOT A BATTLE ROYALE RIPOFF SORRY INTERNET OP IS CORRECT (if only it had been done with a more interesting main character)
